Michele Ferrari was born on April 9th, 1985 in Crema (Cremona).

At the age of 13 (thirteen) the curiosity about manual works and wood attraction lead him to follow a wood carving course given by Master Angelo Mazza for almost five years.

Considered his good manual skills, in 1999 he starts to study in the Istituto Professionale Internazionale per l’artigianato liutario e del legno “Antonio Stradivari” – International Professional Institute for Violinmakers – where he takes a diploma and he becomes Master Violinmaker under the guidance of Masters Maurizio Tadioli e Massimo Negroni.

In the course of the five years of school he wins the scholarship “Walter Stauffer” awarded to the students who achieved good results.

In 2005 he concludes the formative project “Liutaio” – Violinmaker – organized by the same school with an apprenticeship in Master Elio Severgnini’s workshop.

In May 2005 he moves to Madrid in order to frequent the workshop of Master José Maria Lozano, who is Violin Maker, Restorer, Alchemist and Founder of Old Wood 1700 – Colours & Varnishes.
In this workshop he can deepen and specialize in the following foundations:

• Constructive Technique of violins, violas and cellos based on Italian styles and methods, in particular those of Cremona.
• Restoration. He is lucky enough to restore and see important instruments for himself like Guadagnini, Ruggeri, Guarneri, Gagliano, Contreras, Lupot, Storioni or Vuillaume.
• Wood Treatment and Varnising. He learns several wood treatment’s technique which help him to improve instrument’s acoustic, Grounds and Primers, instrument’s pigmentation and vegetable dyes of classical Italian school.
• Instruments’ Setting up. He learns to balance and optimize the sound thanks to the great experience of Master José María Lozano who works for concert performers.

After this beautiful experience lasted six years, in August 2011 he comes back to Cremona.

In 2014 he won the Prize for the best acustic quality with a violin at the VIII National Violinmaking Competition A.N.L.I.

He devotes himself to restoration, setting up and construction of violins, violas and cellos in modern and antique style. He always make use of top quality wood and he pays particular attention to seasoning and sound.

He is member of The Consortium of  Violinmakers “Antonio Stradivari” Cremona and A.L.I. (Associazione Liutaria Italiani).
